Hi…

..and welcome from The Local Growers.

Here you will find the stories about those individuals who grow food and make products locally.

These are some of the people I’ve met while looking for good foods - locally grown foods.

I know their journey. It’s one I experienced growing up on our family farm in West Central Minnesota. That farm was diversified. In other words, we raised several things - crops, hogs, dairy and chickens.

Our meals featured the garden produce my mom harvested, canned and froze and the meat, eggs and dairy products we raised.

It was wholesome food!

While I don’t live on that farm anymore, I am always on the search for locally grown foods. I invite you to join me in this great journey.

Let’s go!

Thanks to our personal chef, Leon!

Last night another Local Growers Meal happened with Leon manning the stove and grill.

And I learned that yesterday July 16, was also National Personal Chef Day!

Shawn and Dave Schneeberger joined us for the meal. Their assignment was to make dessert using local ingredients. But, before our meal could commence, there was a presentation to our chef, Leon.

Thanks to Shawn’s investigative work, she learned about National Personal Chef Day!

Lori, Leon’s main squeeze and my good friend, made the presentation to our chef complete with the chef cap and oven mitts plus more. The picture on the items looked a lot like Leon with its full mustache.

And, as always, the meal was magnifique!

Appetizers included Redhead Creamery cheese curds plus slices of Lucky Linda Cheddar plus salami; the main course featured pork spare ribs, salad, roasted vegetables and sweet corn and, for dessert, made by Shawn, a wonderful rhubarb torte and peach pie!

There was plenty of laughter, great conversation and, even more special, time with friends as we dined on great food!

In the coming weeks, I will feature more about the growers and the meal itself. Special thanks to Haffner Family Farm for the spare ribs and bacon; the Young farm for the farmers market fresh vegetables; Ron for the rhubarb and dear little Ms Evie from rural Millerville, a 6-year-old who is saving the egg money from her 9 laying hens for a splash pad! And thank you to Pastor Roger and Ginny Lange for delivering these precious eggs to Shawn for the dessert making!
