It's All About The Market Bag
IHave I got a market bag for you!
I did some research on bags I could bring to the farmers market. I was looking at reusable linen bags that I could put a variety of items in including jars, frozen meats, produce and baked goods.
There were a number of bag designs to choose from, but the one that topped the list was a farmers market bag I found on Etsy in the Pure Mitti shop.
Now, this is not a paid endorsement of this particular bag, but this design does check off a number of the boxes I had in a market bag.
Because this bag has…..POCKETS!!!!
I think that might be a woman thing because men have lots of pockets in their jeans, in their dress pants and often in their shirts or even t-shirts! Women usually have nothing. Sure, we have the handbag, but sometimes you don’t want to bring the huge handbag…that has EVERYTHING…into a business.
The reason pockets are so neat
If you have ever gone to the Alexandria, MN Farmers Market and had scones at Ida Valley Farms, you know you have to get there early to get your favorite kind. So once you purchase the scone, as my sister and I do when we hit that market, the scone goes in the bottom of the bag.
Next I might get squash. Hubby loves squash. But what about the scone? Do I jockey it up to the top as I get other items or hold onto it during my shopping trip? And if I get tomatoes, how will they fare with the scone and squash?
Enter pockets!
The scone goes in one pocket and the tomato into another. Jars have their own pockets and scones and baked goods yet another.
The items that can be crushed or bruised are protected within the pocket.
This design has deep pockets, too. It comes in either a four- or six-pocket design (I have the 6) with each one measuring 11 inches deep and 7 inches wide.
Heavier, more bulky items go in the bottom.
One bag instead of many
A few years ago, they sold a grab-n-go bag. This particular model had a plastic piece that you could fit over a grocery cart. You could either put all your grocery items in the bag or you could put the plastic bags of groceries in it. It was one bag that made it easier to carry than juggling a bunch of bags.
If you don’t have a reusable bag, no worries! The Farmers Market vendors have your back. They have plastic bags for your items.
But consider the reusable bag. It’s easy to wash. Well constructed. Heavy duty.
And a great gift
When I told my sister I was going to look for a market bag, she said to get her one, too.
I did. It was a Christmas present.
We don’t go to a Farmers Market without our bags.
It’s a great gift for any occasion from birthdays to a special friends gift plus all the other holidays.
There are other bags and other companies, so do your research and pick what is the best option for you.
I did see some possibilities of buying individual mesh bags I could put produce in, but nothing, in my view, protected like the pocket design.
I made a video on YouTube about it. Check out https://youtu.be/oUyOBdrVOIc on my newly created The Local Growers You Tube channel.
What are some items you would like to see in a market bag? Let me know.
