Lilac Jelly is a hit at Fergus Falls Farmers Market

Next time you walk past a lilac bush, think jelly!

That’s what Tina Stone did and she’s created a great spread that’s popular amongst customers at the Fergus Falls Farmers Market.

Stone described the process from picking to cooking the flowers in water, straining it and using the infused water to make the jelly. While the fragrance of lilacs can be, well, quite fragrant, the jelly has a hint of lilac. It’s light and flavorful and, as I said, popular!

It’s great on the wide assortment of breads Cathy, Tina and Amari prepare each week for the farmers market.

They bake eight loaves a day in preparation for the Saturday morning market. Besides sourdough, they have white and wheat breads, shortbread cookies and Cathy’s famous caramel and cinnamon rolls!

Tina’s favorite is the sourdough bread which she started baking after being diagnosed with gluten intolerance. The fermentation process in the bread making makes it possible for her to eat the bread, she said. While it not be something others with gluten intolerance could do, Tina said it is a bread she can consume.

It became a hit amongst Cathy’s co-workers and soon they began baking it for the farmers market sales.

And it’s not just baked goods.

This talented family also sells a wide range of original art work, wood working and jewelry.

They also do special orders and deliveries.
